FAQ

Q. What is the difference between a jet ski and a waverunner?

A. Nothing at all. They are different names for the same thing.

Q. How long do people ride for?

A. The majority of our customers ride (rent) for 1/2 Hr. and the "diehards" will ride (rent) for an hour.

Q. What if I have never ridden a jet ski before?

A. No problem - our friendly and professional staff are eager to teach you the safe riding principles that will turn you into an expert jet skier in no time at all. Riding a jet ski is even easier than riding a bicycle.

Q. How fast can I go on my jet ski?

A. Our 2011 Yamaha waverunners can reach speeds of up to 50 mph but we suggest only going as fast as what feels comfortable to you. You truly can have just as much fun going only 20 mph.

A. No you don't. No license is required at all.

Q. What is the minimum age to ride a jet ski?

A. You must be at least 16 years old (drivers license is not required though is recommended) to drive our jet skis. There is NO minimum age to be a passenger.

Q. Where exactly is the jet ski riding area?

A. Our 100 acre riding arena is located in Kailua Bay. After meeting at at the Kailua Pier in the heart of downtown Kona, we will then take a three minute boat ride to "Jet Ski Island" where we keep our machines.

Q. How much does it cost to rent a jet ski?

A. Our rental rates depend on if you are riding by yourself (solo) or with any additional passengers on the same machine (tandem or triple). Please see our "Rates" page on our website for specifics.

Q. How far in advance do we need to reserve a jet ski(s)?

A. Typically all we need is just a couple days notice to accommodate you at the precise time that fits your schedule best. You may also reserve as far out as you would like.

Q. Fuel- Are there any additional fees or charges for the fuel I use on my rental?

A. NO- The fuel you use IS included in the rental price.

Q. Can we see any wildlife where we ride?

A. YES! We regularly encounter pods of Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins within our riding area (What a great distraction!! ) with such regularity that we include in our pre-ride briefing the proper etiquette for such magical encounters. Also, from December through March we see a lot of Humpback Whales in the general vicinity of our riding area.

Q. What if I'm not the best swimmer?

A. No problem. We provide all riders (passengers too) with properly fitting life jackets. Should for any reason you or your passenger fall off, the life jacket will ensure you will float until you re-board your jet ski.

Q. Where do we meet to go jet skiing?

A. We meet at the Kailua Pier which is on Alii Drive adjacent to the King Kamehameha Hotel. Our slip is at the end of the pier and is clearly marked with a sign that says "Kona Jet Ski Rentals".

Q. Do we need to make a reservation or can we just show up?

A. Yes, we need to know you're coming so we will have a machine(s) available, fueled up, and ready for you to ride.

Q. What do I wear to go jet skiing?

A. Wear a bathing suit or surf shorts. Don't worry about wearing/bringing reef booties, flip-flops of the likes, we ride barefoot. It is a good idea to bring a towel and sunscreen with you.

Q. How many people can ride (fit) on our waverunners?

A. Up to three people (weighing no more than 450 lbs combined). Keep in mind though the closer you get to the machines weight limit, the less stable the jet ski becomes. Overall performance goes down evan at 400 lbs.

Q. Are life jackets provided and if so, how much do they cost?

A. Life jackets are provided at no additional cost.

Q. What happens if I fall off my jet ski while riding?

A. Other than getting wet, that's about it! Relax, the water temperature is roughly 80 degrees year round. Just know that you are connected to your jet ski at all times with an emergency cut off switch. If you should fall off your running jet ski for any reason, the cut off switch will immediately kill the machine and your jet ski will not leave you behind!. You would then simply re-board the jet ski from the rear of the machine by way of the ladder bars we've equipped all our jet ski's with (if you try from the side they just lean and it's a lot harder), restart your machine and away you go!
